background: System L amino acid transporters, such as SLC43A2, mediate sodium-independent transport of bulky neutral amino acids across cell membranes (Bodoy et al., 2005 [PubMed 15659399]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008] Function: Can influence paracellular permeability. Appears to be involved in cell-cell interactions through adherens. Subcellular Location: Cell junction > adherens junction. Cell membrane. Co-localizes with the beta-catenin adherins. Tissue Specificity: Highly expressed in lung, heart, kidney and placenta. Lower expression in thymus, spleen, liver, testis and ovary. Expressed in endothelial and restricted epithelial cell populations.
